Much like us humans, where we need an environment where we can live healthily so that we do not fall sick or contract diseases, the same can be said for your tropical fishes! Make sure you have a good understanding of how to maintain your fish tank to ensure your fish’s well being and health! Although you do not need to do it every week, you must at least make it a point to maintain the tank twice a month to ensure it’s cleanliness.
This article will talk about the few things that you must take care of in your fish tank.
Air filters
The air filters found inside a fish tank is different from an air pump, where an air pump’s main function is to send water through the air filter, the filter’s job is to help clean waste and debris left by your fish’s waste in the water. Typically, the bigger a tank is the less it is required of you to clean the filters as often, because it have ample space for your bacteria to control each other. Some fishes will even eat those bacteria growth to help control their presence.
As mentioned before, it might be wise to drain and clean your tank at least twice a week, to ensure that it is clean and safe from any form of bacterias. However many experts have also argued against it and suggested that once a month is more than sufficient, why?
This is because by maintaining the bacterial growth at the bottom of your aquarium are useful for degrading the fish waste, as well as any food waste. This natural cycle can help break down the waste in it’s most natural form, thus cleaning them too often will alter it’s function as well as altering your fish’s habitat often.
However, do not hesitate to clean your tank if it gets too dirty, as the main reason why some of us have an aquarium in our own home is for display purposes, no one likes seeing a dirty fish tank!
